Searching for the Centre art performance
Saturday 21 January 2017at 11:30 am – 4:00 pm
Join artist Janetka Platun and the Lab to find the centre of Haverfordwest on January 21, in a performance event that begins at various locations on the periphery of the town, and ends in 17 High Street as part of the current Searching for the Centre commission.
From 11.30 to 2.00, four women wearing traditional clothes worn by the Llangwm fisherwomen will be walking into Haverfordwest from four cardinal points starting on the outskirts, asking the people they encounter for directions to the ‘centre’.
The four departure locations will be:
North – Debenhams, Withybush Retail Park
South – Tesco Extra
East – Higgon’s Well on the River Cleddau
West – The Hive, Garth Youth & Community Project
Look out for them.
This will be followed by a gathering in 17 High Street from 2.00 until 4.00pm, where there will be an opportunity to join the artist, the performance participants and representatives of Confluence, to continue the conversation and ‘get to the heart of the matter.’
Keep an eye out on the Western Telegraph in the run up to January 21.
“The Llangwm fisherwomen were strongly connected to the river and had a unique relationship to the centre of Haverfordwest. Their presence can act as a metaphor for current feelings of emptiness, entanglement and being lost. As they carry their baskets in search of the centre they can transcend time and help us to think about what the future might hold”.
