Newton’s Cottage is an exciting new art commission on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park designed by Rotterdam-based art/architecture collective Observatorium.
This sculpture echoes the form of the lock keepers cottage that once sat at Carpenters Road Lock – a historically significant lock over the River Lea located in the heart of the Park. Named after C. Newton, the last lock keeper of Carpenters Road Lock, the project celebrates the history and heritage of this unique site and also of the waterways of London – it is a space for reflection and for visitors to consider this historically significant site.
